AVCOLIT ABC is a one-shot product which is used in bleaching acrylic, polyester and cotton textiles by sodium chlorite in the acidic pH process. The product contains the following three components:
a. Masking agent against chlorine-dioxide odors.
b. Buffer agent for pH control
c. Corrosion inhibitor

PROPERTIES & USES:
- AVCOLIT ABC keeps amount of free chlorine-dioxide in the bleaching bath at a very
low level and prevents this toxic, bad odor and corrosive gas from escaping from
the
bleaching bath.
- AVCOLIT ABC lowers consumption of sodium-chlorite by preventing undesired
secondary chemical reactions.
- AVCOLIT ABC in the proper amount in the bleaching bath adjusts and controls the
pH so it would be constant through all the bleaching process, even during
prolonged bleaching process the change in pH is only 0.1-0.2 pH units.
- AVCOLIT ABC contains a component which is a corrosion inhibitor to lower
formation of rust on the bleaching machine. It is recommended to use only
stainless steel (acid
resistance) machinery in this process.
- AVCOLIT ABC has wetting, washing and cleaning properties. With certain textiles such
as acrylics it is possible to bleach without pre-scouring.
APPLICATION:
AVCOLIT ABC can be used in all types of high liquor ratio bleaching machines such as winches, jigs, jets and padding machines. The bleaching bath is prepared by adding first the pre-dissolved AVCOLIT ABC, then adding desired quantity of acid (oxalic acid, formic acid, inorganic acid or acid salts) to obtain the desired pH value, and finally adding the pre-dissolved sodium chlorite.
Compatibility with cationic softeners should be checked before use.
BLEACHING FORMULATIONS:
-
Chlorite bleaching of 100% cotton:
sodium chlorite (80%)2 – 3 g/l
AVCOLIT ABC 3 – 4 g/l
Adjust to pH 4.2-4.8 with formic or oxalic acid.
Treat at 85°C for 1.5 – 2.5 hours.
-
Chlorite bleaching of 100% polyester
sodium chlorite (80%) 1.5 – 2g/l
AVCOLIT ABC 3 – 4 g/l
Adjust to pH 3.8 with formic or oxalic acid.
Optical brightener which is stable to chlorite can be added.
Bleaching temperature 100-120°C for 45-60 minutes.
-
Chlorite bleaching of 100% acrylic
Sodium chlorite (80%) 1 – 2 g/l
AVCOLIT ABC 3 – 4 g/l
Adjust to pH 3.8 with formic acid.
Optical brightener which is stable to chlorite can be added.
Treat at 95-98°C for 45 minutes.
After bleaching cool the bath and drop. Rinse well (hot and cold).
Addition of 1 g/l AVCO-POLYQUEST RE (dispersing, and sequestering agent) and
2 g/l sodium bisulfite (antichlor) to the rinsing bath is preferable.
