AVCO-FLAM DBA

FIRE RETARDANT FOR USE WITH POLYMER DISPERSIONS

AVCOFLAM DBA is a flame retardant suitable for using with Acrylic, PVC and other aqueous polymer dispersions on natural and synthetic fabrics such as polyester, polyamide, polypropylene cellulosic fabrics etc.
The product is applied by coating, printing and padding processes.

SPECIFICATION:

Appearance White, viscous, heavy paste.
Chemical nature Aqueous dispersion of organic bromine compound and antimony oxide.
Density (g/cc) 1.8 – 1.9
Ionicity Nonionic / anionic
pH (10% dispersion) 6 ± 1
Solubility Dispersible in water.
Storage Sensitive to frost. When properly stored stable for at least 12 months.
Viscosity 700 – 900 mPa.s

PROPERTIES & USES:

  1. AVCOFLAM DBA is an aqueous dispersion of non-soluble organic and inorganic flame
proofing additives in a very fine dispersion.
  2. AVCOFLAM DBA does not contain any binding substances.
  3. AVCOFLAM DBA can be fixed to the textile substrate by blending with a suitable
polymer dispersion to produce a water and solvent resistant flame proofing effect.
  4. AVCOFLAM DBA contains in its composition white material which may influence the
colour of pigments incorporated into the coating or printing paste; and change it
    to a paler shade.
  5. When coating or printing AVCOFLAM DBA on a pre-dyed textile fabric, after drying
the printed or coated area may have a white look. It is recommended to tint the
    product with suitable pigments.
  6. AVCOFLAM DBA can also be applied by padding process by mixing with a suitable
binder. The aqueous dispersion should be mixed and circulated in order to
prevent precipitation of the heavy active ingredients. If the dispersion is
viscous enough the separation is prevented for a longer period.
  7. AVCOFLAM DBA is a non-toxic flame retardant.

APPLICATION:

  1. Prepare the coating or printing paste, and while the high-speed mixer is on add AVCOFLAM DBA. Mix until homogeneous. Sieve if needed and transfer for coating or for printing.
  2. Dosage depends on type of substrate and type of latex used. When using PVC latex amount of AVCOFLAM DBA is lower than for formulations based on acrylic latex.
  3. Use of 10 – 30% AVCOFLAM DBA in the printing or coating paste is recommended.
  4. Drying and fixation of the coated or printed paste depends on type of the polymer dispersion used, type of substrate and type of machinery.
  5. By the padding method higher concentrations are recommended. Blend the binder with AVCOFLAM DBA, add pigments if needed. Increase viscosity with a suitable thickener.
  6. Trials in the laboratory are needed before application.
  7. Call AVCO CHEMICALS laboratories for suitable recipes.
