AVCO-TAN L-220

THICKENER FOR DISPERSE AND ACID DYES PRINTING

AVCOTAN L-220 is a synthetic thickener developed for the convenience production, handling and use of disperse and acid printing pastes. The product does not release hazardous solvent vapors to the air during use. The product is non-toxic and is not combustible.

SPECIFICATION:

Appearance Yellowish tan liquid.
Chemical nature Synthetic copolymer dispersed in hydrocarbons.
Compatibility
  1. Can be used together with all chemicals and dyestuff normally encountered in printing acid and disperse dyes.
  2. Is not compatible with strong alkalis, acids, metallic- ions, cationics and concentrated electrolytes.
Ionicity Anionic
Solubility Dispersible in water, in concentration up to 2-3% forms viscous paste
Storage stability
  1. Stable for at least 12 months.
  2. Thin liquid layer may appear on surface during long storage time. Agitate with a rod before use.
pH (5% dispersion) 7.5 ± 1

PROPERTIES & USES:

  1. Outstanding coverage and levelness of the printed area.
  2. Increased colour yield with good reproducibility.
  3. Produces smooth paste during short mixing time.
  4. Printing paste viscosity is stable for long storage time.
  5. Good wash-off properties.
  6. Resistant to bacteria and mold growth.
  7. Does not react with disperse and acid dyestuffs.
  8. Very good penetration properties into high pile fabrics.
  9. Produces thixotropic printing paste which enables to control flow properties of the paste.
  10. No need for white spirit for production of the printing paste.
  11. Does not bleed out of rotary screens during printing machine stops.
  12. Does not clog printing screens.
  13. Very easy to adjust viscosity, no need for prolonged swelling time.
  14. No dust formation during paste preparation.
  15. AVCOTAN L-220 does not release hazardous solvent vapours to the environment during use.
  16. Liquid product, suitable for automatic dozing.
  17. Excellent frost stability.

APPLICATION:

  1. When preparing the stock printing paste, all the chemicals should be added to the water and allowed to dissolve prior to adding the AVCOTAN L-220. The thickener should be added while mixing, It will easily disperse and fully hydrate in some minutes.
  2. Stock paste formulation for disperse dyes
    Water 960 – 980
    AVCOTAN L-220 40 – 20
    1000
  3. Stock paste formulation for Acid dyes
    Water 930 – 910
    Urea 50 – 50
    AVCOTAN L-220 20 – 40
    1000
  4. Printing paste preparation:
Pre-dissolved dyestuffs should be added to the stock paste while stirring. If needed, in very high dye concentration, viscosity adjustment is done easily by adding thickener during high speed mixing.
It is also possible to add the pre-dissolved dyestuffs to the water, then to add AVCOTAN L-220, and mix until receiving smooth paste with the needed viscosity.
  5. Fixation
Fixation should be done in the normal procedure required by the type of fixation machine and dyestuffs used.
    • Fixation of Acid dyes in atmospheric steam at 100-105°C for 25-30 minutes.
    • Fixation of disperse dyes
      1. pressurized steam at 0.5-2 atm. for 20-30 min.
      2. HT steam at 165-180°C for 6-8 min.
      3. Thermosol at 200-210°C for 60-90 seconds.
  6. Washing off
Washing off should be done with soft water, or with tap water with the addition of complexing agents. Temperature, type of washing aids and procedures depends on machinery and type of dyestuffs. (For more details refer to the technical bulletins of AVCOL PAM, AVCOL-PET).
  7. To improve definition of the print borders addition of AVCOPRINT JN and AVCOGEN KRK is very beneficial. For high pile fabrics use 10-20 g/Kg of AVCOGEN KRK. For delicate flat fabrics use 5-10 g/kg AVCOPRINT JN.
  8. To improve penetration of the printing paste into the fabric construction add
    5-15 g/kg AVCOTEX MP.
